PowerBuilder the Internet/Intranet and WEB.PB

This 75 minute presentation on PowerBuilder and the internet is divided into four sections:

The internet did not just arrive on the scene by accident. The emergence of the internet and thin client computing came about because of weaknesses in the client/server development and deployment environment. We demonstrate to participants that client/server's main advantage, decentralized processing also contributes to it's biggest failure, the cost of code distribution. We answer the following questions:

• What were the deficiencies of the mainframe/host environment that led
  to client/server?
• What were the deficiencies of the client/server environment that led
  to the Internet?
  

This section compares and contrasts WEB.PB with other PowerBuilder Internet options such as Active X Development, Window Plug-In, and DataWindow Plug-Ins.

This section documents each of the potential tiers in a WEB.PB environment:

• Browser
• Application Server
• WebServer
• Transaction Server
• DataBase Server

Following the traffic in a WEB.PB environment. Documents in graphical format the flow of data in an internet/intranet
environment:

• Browser to Web Server
• Web Server to Application Server
• Application Server to DataBase Server
• DataBase Server to Application Server
• Application Server to Web Server
• Web Server to the browser
